Students in fourth, and fifth grade learn to play an instrument called the recorder throughout the year.  If your child left their recorder at TJ over the summer then it was moved up to their teacher this year.  If your child owns a recorder but it is not at school then they need to bring it in so that it is available for practice.

If your student needs to purchase a recorder then you will need to fill out the order form when it is sent home in a Monday Folder within the first few weeks of the school year.  We only make one order and we do not purchase extras.

For families that move to this school after the recorder order has been completed, and who do not have their own recorders, we do have school-owned recorders that are sanitized with every use that are available to be played in the classroom.  School recorders are not allowed to be taken home for practice.

Because of the active nature of music class, it is best, and for all of the children's safety, if your child wears shoes that attach firmly to their feet. No flip-flops or shoes with open backs are permitted at TJ.  Also, heavy or loose boots, and shoes that do not attach securely to the foot, are strongly discouraged in music class.  In music class we encourage personal expression, but we also strive to provide a safe environment for all the students, especially during movement activities.
