Mr. Richard E. Owen
Job Description: Title 1 Reading Teacher
Location: FES/TJES

As the school year begins I will be working with a more select group of students; some may not receive or need my extra support all year;others will. As assessments are completed we will have a more complete picture of those that do need that extra support and those students will receive up to 30 mins. of support, depending on their need. I look forward to working with your child(ren) at Forest Elem. or Thomas Jefferson Elem.this year!

Please feel free to stop by my room and check out some of the Parent Resource materials we have to help you get involved with your child's Reading, Writing and Language Arts activities!

The Importance of Reading Each Night!
Check out these three students reading habits and then please read to your child and listen to your child read.

Student A - Reads 20 minutes each school day (3600 minutes in a school year and about 1,800,000 words).
Student B - Reads 5 minutes each school day (900 minutes a school year and about 282,000 words)
Student C - Reads 1 minute each school day (180 minutes in a school year and about 8,000 words)

By the end of 6th grade Student A will have read the equivalent of 60 whole school days. Student B will have read only 12 school days.  Which student would you expect to have a better vocabulary? Which student would you expect to be more successful in school and in life?
