About Us

The vision of Thomas Jefferson Elementary is to give children the opportunity to reach their potential and be successful lifelong learners.

Our mission, in partnership with our families and community, is to educate our children in a way that encourages independence, responsibility, and good citizenship in a safe and supportive environment.

In response to overcrowding at Forest Elementary School (FES) and New London Academy (NLA), construction began in 1999 on a new elementary school in the Forest Zone, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School (TJES). Construction was completed just in time for the school to open for the 2000-2001 school year. The school was built to serve children in Grades Pre-K through 5th. Since opening in the fall of 2000. TJES has been served by six principals including Bruce Shafferman, Mac Duis, Andy Greenough, Brian Wilson, Tim Overstreet, and the current principal, Heather Boyles. During the same period of time, the school has been served by eight assistant principals including Lois Graham, Kathy Tate, Andy Greenough, Michele West, Jeanie Floyd, Susan Boyd, Heather Boyles, and the current Assistant Principal, Kim Cherry.
